Spring into Summer!

• Bring the outside….inside… and the inside…..outside
• Let nature be your guide: use the 5 elements in your summer-scape (feng shui principles) earth, fire, wood, metal, water.
• Refresh with green plants…besides being beautiful, they are healthy.  Clean up your old plants, introduce new ones. Put in interesting, colorful pots or use old tin, or shabby-chic white tins. (earth, metal)
• Bring water into your home—inside and out:  fish bowls; water falls; table (indoor) fountain; water bowls with floating flowers or rocks; build a pond; put seashells with sand and water on your table. (earth, water, metal)
• Put nature in a jar or glass bowl—seashells, rocks, blue glass marbles (earth)
• Create table-scapes with new summer candles and natural elements (fire)
• Cover your fireplace with a large plant or fresh flowers; use a wooden or metal screen to cover fireplace and surround it with natural elements in a basket or free form… (earth, wood, metal)
• Hang flowering plants just outside your windows
• Hang bird houses outside where you can see them
• Repaint old furniture to be used on your deck or in the garden
• Fill old paint cans, mason jars, watering vessels with flowers or budding twigs (earth, iron, water) 

 Recover and Re-purpose                

• Slipcover your chairs/sofas with light colors, chintzes, sailcloth, white
• Wrap your curtain rods with muslin or fishing netting, fill with seashells
• Cover your chairs with old quilts that look like a “summer porch”
• Make “no-sew” pillow cases with Velcro, glue or ribbon tied at the edges
• Use shams or pillow cases to spruce up your pillows in the family room or porch
• Dumpster dive: turn your trash into treasure. Repurpose old furniture or items from the curbside trash with a fresh coat of paint or a little sandpaper to give it the “shabby chic” look
• Have a glass top made for your kitchen table and put fun tablecloths, or wicker placemats underneath the glass

Accessorize: With items from your special summer get-aways!

• Seashells: on shelves, mantle, tables, tablescapeFlowers: centerpiece, hearth, mantle, hanging
• Water spaces: glass jar/vase filled with water & stones, fountain,
• Photographs or pictures of family vacations or your favorite spots
• Fishing rods, wicker baskets for summer magazines, basket of summer reading books, basket of beach towels, wood mirrors to reflect the light
• Lemonade pitcher filled with lemonade, ice tea, flowers, rocks/shells in water…..just sitting out on counter, table (very inviting)
• Family photos of summer vacations displayed in white frames
• Summer books in a wicker basket or displayed on table or stacked on floor
